Since summer is shortly approaching and the school year is almost over, I thought I would focus on some events that will be taking place in Reno during the summer. We all want to make sure that our summers are well spent and to actually take the time to attend events that we could not attend during the school year. The city of Reno, and especially Downtown Reno, have so many great events that take place over the summer. It is just a problem of deciding which events to attend.
This summer The Reno Philharmonic Orchestra is combining two theater favorites, Orchestra and Broadway. For all of you Broadway fans this will definitely be an event you will not want to miss!
Pops on the River – Broadway Bash will take place on July 13, 2013 from 5:00pm to 10:30pm at Wingfield Park in Downtown Reno. Gates will open at 5:00pm and the concert will start at 8:00pm.

Fun Fact: The Pops on the River is a part of the Artown festival that takes place very year in Downtown Reno.
The event this year will be full of tunes of Broadway favorites along with food, wine, friends, contests, prizes, table decorations, and even costumes. Every year at this event there are awards given out based on great costumes and table decorations/themes. Here are some examples of awards that are given out at the event:

Best of Reno
Best of Show
You can tell just by looking at these categories that the Pops on the River is not only a performance put on by the Reno Phil, but a chance to come together as a community and have some fun. I think what I like the most about events that take place in Downtown Reno is that there is always a sense of community and everyone always has a good time. And not only is the atmosphere exciting and full of laughter, but the location is spectacular as well. With the Truckee River surrounding the park where the concert is taking place, it creates a well rounded atmosphere that fully embodies the city of Reno.
